Is this really the end?

Being an ex-engineer, I tend to tweak on my computer (Dell Dimension 4600,
2.8Mhz Pentium IV HT, 1.5MB DDR RAM, 160GB SATA HD, Intel 865G chipset) until
I need to "fix" it. Consequently, I use the <end now> feature in Task Manager
a lot to close frozen programs. Lately, clicking on my loyal button has had
no effect. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Sorry for being so long replying, Chuck, but I had to remove some malware
before I could even get to this newsgroup again! So, System Resore, huh? I
assume you mean for me to use System Restore to go back to a gentler time?
Ok, but I'm holding you responsible! (Just kidding!) Thanks for the tip! I'll
see you on the other side of restore!

Do a Google search for programs like EndItAll. You should find several
that can kill running programs, even hidden ones. The WinXP Task Manager
should be good enough if there is no malware infecting your system.

Okay, after removing some "malware/spyware" my task manager seems to be able
to end programs, however, I will have to wait until I've created a
"train-wreck" like condition with freezing and gnashing of teeth before I can
give it a really good test. Thanks all for the tips, and Chuck, I'm still
avoiding that "restore" button!
