Here are 2 laptops that I've wittled it down to......yes I'm still deciding on what to buy (don't worry, my deadline to buy one is end of next week so no more faffing around after that) ........I have decided to up the spec and mortgage the house.

Well.......

Regarding the Rock Extreme:
I found 2 people selling Rock laptops. They are both identical as the one I listed above, EXCEPT one is 1.5 years old, has 1GB RAM and costs £700 (no warranty), and the other one is 9 months old and has 4GB RAM and costs £900 (with 2 yrs warranty).

The guy that's selling the 4GB RAM one, says that Windows is showing only 3.072GB RAM. Do you think this means that one of the RAMS is faulty?

Regarding the Dell M90:
I found the Dell M90 for about £850 new (3 yrs warranty), but it only has 1GB RAM and 80GB HDD BUT with 512MB NVIDIA Quadro FX-2500M Graphics !!

All 3 laptops have 7200rpm HDD's and 17" screens.

I'm almost certain the Dell M90 will run cooler and quieter, but the ROCK ones are extremely tempting.....they are more powerful than my desktop!!!!

I'm just wondering if I can get away with 1GB RAM on a Rock laptop? I cannot afford to upgrade any of these :(

Decisions decisions....

Why not?

Also, how can I do a thorough check on 2nd hand laptops - before I buy? Apart from checking on the device drivers?

I'm not a computer technical expert, so I'm sure I'm an easy target for scammers

Buy a laptop what meet your needs.

Look at the price.

Do you wanted it for games, net, typing?

If not for games go for a basic laptop.
