Piper just thinks she has thumb troubles!

This one is a little weird. I have Windows XP Home, Dell Dimension 4600,
Pentium IV HT, 2.8Mhz, 1.5GB DDR memory, Intel 865 chipset, 160GB SATA hard
drive. Sometime in the past, a monster crawled aboard my computer and now
with almost every new directory I make, a file, called simply, "thumbs.db"
appears. These files seem to do no harm, but they are everywhere! My computer
will not open them, and I even found a "nest" of them in a zip file in Visual
Studio 2005\Goodies\Corbis Images\Image Browser.zip! They seem innocuous, but
enough is enough! Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Very amusing post, but I'm afraid there is no monster; at least not one
creating the thumbs.db. This is just the thumbnails database. The reason
you are seeing the files now (and they were always there) is that you've
got "show hidden files" enabled.

There are four checkboxes dealing with hidden files and extensions. From the
View tab in Folder Options:

a. "Display the contents of system folders".
b. "Show hidden files and folders".
c. "Hide extensions for known file types".
d. "Hide protected operating system files" and click "OK" to the dialog box.

Malke,

You're right! After making the selections you recommended, the "monsters"
went away. Out of sight, out of mind, I always say! Thanks.

Thanks, Greenie. From Malke's post, I learned that I can come to love and
live with my "monsters." I just have to "leave the light on," so to speak.
Thanks for your tip.

Just as long as they stay in the closet and don't go under the bed, it's
OK. ;-)

Glad you got it sorted. Thanks for taking the time to let me know.
