Is this really the end?

Sorry for posting here, but I can't seem to be able to access "Performance
and Maintenance" lately. I have a Dell Dimension 4600 with Windows XP Home,
and it seems that lately, when I try to shut down an app in Task Manaager,
there is no effect, and I eventually have to manually push the power button
on my computer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have 1.5GB of
DDR memory, Pentium IV HT, 2.8Mhx processor, Intel 865 chipset, 160GB SATA
hard drive. Thanks in advance.

Thanks, Byte, as it turns out, I already had AdAware SE, so I updated the
definitions, ran a full scan, removed 12 critical objects, and things seem to
be better, however, I found a small file in the directory my <hosts> resides,
so I moved it to a temp directory, and that helped too, so I'm on the trail,
at least!

Ron, I'm checking out that site now. I'll let you know how things turn out.

Uh, Byte, sorry, but I may not have been clear about something; I am also
having trouble getting to this newsgroup site, thus the reference to the
<hosts> file. Sorry. I've got to do more testing to see if the "end" thing is
cleared up.
