is this possible in vista?

like in organisations and institues, can we set up a user account, in our
home network, which can be accessed from any pc on the network. this would
eliminate the need of creating seperate user accounts on each pc on a netwrk
and the files would also be accessible everywhere?

if that is not possible then. is this possible.
that we could synchronize files and emails and possibly settings of two user
accounts on different machines on a network?

machine 1: vista ultimate
machine 2:vista business

you can enable remote desktop in the ultimate or business, and log in from
another windows pc using the remote desktop client

then you will launch the remote desktop client from the other pc and log in

if you search on google you will find many tutorials on how to do this..

I do exactly what you want to do all the time on several computers no only
on my local network
but via the internet too In fact Im using it this very moment

if i am not wrong, the remote log in would require the actual pc on which
the account is on to be powered ON. right? in which cases its not a good
idea. any way i will read the link for knowledge.

You can turn the remote pc on with a WAKE ON LAN command
this sends a "magic" packet via the network and it wakes up the computer

I do that all the time too.. I wake up the PC and then control it via remote
desktop

Yes if you setup a server like the ones organizations and institutes use.
You could even use one of the PCs to share the disk storage from.

Yes.. well yes if you want to.
Email is easy.. use IMAP rather than POP.. with IMAP the mail and its state
is kept on the server not the machine.. alternatively use webmail.

Files are more difficult.. you can keep them on external storage and take it
with you (vista has software to keep them synced) or use a server.

Settings can be done but I don't know how ATM.
