Vista Business doesnt retain settings

I have Vista business on this desktop and Vista Ultimate 64 bit on a laptop.
When I want to share items from desktop on one to desktop on another or even
on any other networked machine on the home network, I like to have the icons
for each machine shown as extra large. When I reboot the machine they revert
to Tiles. Even opening the Network Icon I have on the desktop opens ONLY in
a quarter panel and not a full screen as I like no matter what I do.

So how do you get Vista to retain the settings in the way I like? This isnt
limited to icons in the Network either. It happens on folders on the same
computer but not as often. While those ones CAN reset to tiles from time to
time, the Network icons happen every single reboot and the Network opening
in a quarter panel happens every single TIME I try to open it.

If anyone has any suggestions how to fix this, I would appreciate it. Oh and
BTW, it happened even from the day I fresh installed Vista Business.

Good luck is right. You have to be joking (no offence)!

When this same thing was an issue in XP there was a simple regedit hack you
could download and apply to registry that fixed the entire thing. Now we
have layers of complexity that are ridiculous.

All I wanted was simple - to keep the folder view for the folder I change,
to stay put but the answer in that URL is so ridiculous. Hours of work to do
such a simple thing.

Lastly, it didnt seem to apply to my case.

I am just trying to get windows I set in different views to remain in those
set views but they dont.

I'm confused: how was the information in the link I posted not "a simple
regedit hack"?

Huh. It was about 1 minute of work when I tried it. You must type REALLY slow.

This page includes a download for a .reg file to accomplish this for you.
Personally, I prefer to edit the registry myself, but to each his own.

I still think this may solve your problem (it fixes issues related to Vista
"forgetting" your folder settings).

Hope this helps!

You mustnt have read the entire thing in that link you posted, then,
obviously.

In any case, the amazing thing is that the old XP hack DOES work. I tried it
for the hell of it thinking I could always do a restore if it didnt work. It
did. Simple, thank goodness. Double click and reboot and you're done.
