Problems with desktop icons

I've noticed some problems with the way Vista handles desktop icons. The
first problem is that for no apparent reason, my desktop icons will
occasionally rearrange messeing up the order I placed them in. It happens on
ALL 3 of my computers running Vista (2 running business edition and 1
running Ultimate). I think simply saving a file to the desktop causes this,
but not 100% sure. It seems to happen every few days.

The second problem is that when you try to select icons using the shift-key
(hold down the shift key + click on the icon(s) above and below), it selects
icons in the NEXT row as well, and it's not supposed to do that. In Windows
XP it worked great. If I wanted to select a group of icons in a single row,
I would just hold down the shift-key, click the first icon, then click on
the last icon in the row, and they would select perfectly. Windows Vista
does not handle this correctly, and it is clearly a bug.

Has anyone else noticed this problem? And does anyone know of a fix, or if
it'll be fixed in Vista SP1???

Thanks for your response, but:

1) I DO have auto-arrange on, as I've always had it on since Windows 95
days. Previous versions of Windows never re-arranged the icons like Vista
does with auto-arrange option turned on. Perhaps that's a fix for the
problem in Vista, but it's still a bug to me since it never happened in
previous Windows versions.

2) Regarding selecting icons using the shift-key, I've tried every way to
prevent it from selecting icons in the next rows, even by not hovering the
mouse over the icon for a "split" second. It doesn't work...
