is Outlook Express being dropped ?

I have heard rumors that Outlook Express is going to be discontinued. If
anyone has accurate information regarding this issue please share it with us.
Thanks.

Not in existing products. Outlook Express became Windows Mail in
Windows Vista. Windows Seven may not ship with a native mail app.
In that OS mail support may be available as a downloaded of a mail
client app such as Windows Live Mail or Thunderbird.

Could that situation be what you are referring to ?

You heard right and they aren't rumors. Outhouse Distress has been
replaced with Windows Live Fail which replaced Windows Fail.

I would recommend none of them and urge you to check out Thunderbird, a
much better application that you can get at
http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird.

"Discontinued" in what way? It'll always be there on XP discs, but was
dropped/revamped in Vista. I don't think even Mr Gates has the power to
change the Internet so that OE isn't a supported mail/news client.

Did you mean *support* for OE? Exactly what sort of support?

That is, of course, your opinion, and you have the right to your own
opinion. I have tried T'bird, and personally, I hated it. Now it may be that
I was expecting a more 'Outlook-ish' GUI, but I don't think so. I tried it
out for about 2 weeks, and finally uninstalled it. It wasn't the mail side
of it that I disliked so much as I didn't like the newsreader. YOMV. . .

The Outlook Express development team and the Windows Mail development team
were both disbanded in June, 2006. (Yes, when Windows Mail was still beta).

In the case of OE, it will be supported as long as XP is. April 2014 in the
case of XP/SP3.

Three points:

1. Outlook Express will not be discontinued, since it will remain in
Windows XP.

2. The is no program called Outlook Express in Windows Vista. It has
been replaced by a program called Windows Mail, which is essentially
nothing more than the latest version of Outlook Express, but with a
new name.

3. Apparently Windows 7 will contain neither Outlook Express nor
Windows Mail, nor any other E-mail program. However you can download
and use a different product, such as the Microsoft Windows Live Mail,
or any other third-party E-mail Client or newsreader you want (just as
you could in older versions of Windows).

Personally, I haven't used Outlook Express for several years, since I
prefer to use Microsoft Outlook for E-mail, and Forte Agent for
newsgroups.

Outlook Express lives on for as long as an XP installation does..

Windows Mail has not been replaced by Windows Live Mail, and will survive
for as long as a Vista installation does..

Windows Live Mail is the only free e-mail client on offer from Microsoft,
starting with Windows 7..

Your choice does not equate to 'everybody else has to like it'..

And what didn't you like about the newsreader?

Does Windows Mail give the option of using multiple accounts like Outlook
Express does?
I found Outlook doesn't allow this and I really like being able to access
different email accounts through the same email program.

That's not correct. Outlook, just like almost every E-mail client,
lets you access multiple e-mail accounts. I use Outlook for my E-mail,
and I have it check all four of the E-mail addresses I use.

They all do.
I found Outlook doesn't allow this

Sure it does. At the moment, I access two different email accounts with
Outlook, and it's been as many as four.
and I really like being able to access different email accounts through
the same email program.

All of these do this. This isn't a problem and is unchanged.

However, what Windows Mail and Outlook also do is use a *single inbox for
all accounts*.

Windows Live Mail and OE set up separate inboxes for each account.

Can you have Outlook Express and Microsoft Outlook both setup to receive
mail on the same computer ?
Thanks

I didn't have that scenario when I was using it at work. I had 2 separate
accounts, and each account had its own inbox. IOW, I couldn't see account
1's mail when I opened it as account 2. I set it up to allow me to pick
which user name to use when opening Outlook. To change users, I'd close
Outlook and reopen it, picking the other user.

What you are describing is an email Profile. Each are separate.
Outlook ( specifically 2007 ) allows you to setup multiple email
accounts within a single profile. You can individually setup the
send/receive options and destination mailbox (.Pst) for each of
the mail accounts ( Inbound/Outbound Servers ).

I realize that. We were using Outlook 2003 when I retired, and there were
different inboxes for each profile. Don't believe more than one account
could be setup for the same profile, although I may be wrong about that. I
never had any need to try it that way.
