Is it worth keeping your CPU as cool as possible?

70 C is the thermal limit of modern CPU's. You do NOT want to run them
above that.

You do not want to run them 60C or above.

Individualism is a political and social philosophy that emphasizes individual
liberty, belief in the primary importance of the individual and in the virtues
of self-reliance and personal independence. It embraces opposition to authority
and to all manner of controls over the individual, especially when exercised by
the state or society. It is thus directly opposed to collectivism.

OEM boxes have been running 'em around 60C for years- and
they still work.

OK, then you don't want to run them above 60C.

I fried a K6-II at 60C. I know that was the temp because the BIOS
alarm was set for 60C and when I heard the alarm I shut down
immediately. That happened a couple of time which forced me to replace
the chip. I put a much better cooler on it than that crap AMD (and
Intel) pawn off as "approved" in their retail box setups. I even got
to upgrade from 450MHz to 500MHz. Luckily Directron had them for a
cheap price.

Once bitten, twice shy. I have my alarms set for 60C on my new box.
But even with the Prime 95 Torture Test I can't get much above 50C -
and that's running a retail box cooler on my Celeron D. But then I
have four 80mm fans so it is getting plenty of air inside.
