Hi,
When my computer is idling after logging on to an account in Windows XP,
about every 2 minutes an hourglass appears next to the mouse pointer for a
few seconds. It does this also when using an application, like OE, but the
hesitation is more noticeable and annoying. I have disconnected the cable
modem, but this strange behavior is still occurring. When looking at the
performance graph in the task manager, you can see a spike about ever 2
minutes, using 40 - 60% of the CPU for several seconds. When the spike
occurs, the two monitors in the system tray also light up. I don't know
enough about computers to determine whether this is a software or hardware
problem. Everything seems to work o.k., except for the periodic slowdown or
hesitation. Have checked for viruses and spyware, but everything checks o.k.
Any help or suggestion of why this is happening and means for correcting the
problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
