IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or STOP: 0x0000000A

Hello fellow MVPs or other kind volunteers,

It all started after I had a registry file missing error dialogue. I
eventually resorted to formatting and reinstalling Windows XP Pro, which by
the way is an original, from fresh. After full-formatting one of my
partitions into NTFS through booting from the CD, I got the following when
attempting the installation:

I got a series of the same error message as below but with differennt DLL
files, and so I kept retrying until it stuck on the 'hnetcfg' file when I
got the following:

"This file hnetcfg.dll was not copied correctly.

The file Setup placed on your hard drive is not a valid Windows XP system
image. If you are installing from a CD, there may be a problem with the
Windows XP CD.

- To retry, press ENTER.

If you continue to recieve this message, contact your Windows XP supplier or
system administrator.

- To skip this, press ESC.

CAUTION: If you skip this file, Setup may not complete and Windows XP may
not work properly.

- To quit Setup, press F3."

And when I press enter many times over, I got a blue screen with the
following:

"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent
damange to your computer.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your
computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software ...

If problems continue ...

Technical information:
*** STOP: 0x0000000A (0X691C9FF4, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x807CA9BE)"

If it is of any help, when I retried reformatting the same partition and
another as well, I got an error message that sounded something like "the
partition may be damaged or corrupt". Also, please note that I tried another
Windows XP Pro CDs but it did me no good, and I also checked the CDs for
scratches but they looked perfectly scratchless and spotless to me.

Thank you for your kindness and time

Buy a new hard drive, that one is dead (or, less likely, it's controller)

Setup would have already tried doing the only fix that might have worked
(chkdsk /r)

It isn't your hard drive, Dont waste money on new one. The problem is
probably a corrupt BIOS on you MOBO,; could be virus corrupted, The problem
with the message you got is common. If you know someone who can flash the
BIOS, download the latest bios software and have them flash the bios. If it's
a corrupt bios, that might fix it. Go to Google and search for the problem;
just type in the error message you got and google will show you a bunch of
answers. You are entitled to two free phone calls to Microsoft, waste one on
this problem.

Check your RAM with memtest86 or something. This can happen when you have
faulty RAM. You don't know it till you do an install like this cause it
needs all it can get to decompress all huge compressed files during install.

I have also had this happen when I installed from a CD I had copied cause
the copy wasn't perfect. If that is the case you get those messages about
the different corrupt or missing files.
