IRQ conflict

I am trying to get a sound card to work. In Device
manager is says it is working properly however I do not
get any sound through the speakers. I have tried
different speakers and in media player i get the levels
moving up and down while sound should be playing. I
checked conflicts/sharing of IRQs and the sound card is
sharing IRQ 12 with a Intel PCI to USB UNiversal Host
controller. But I don't have a PCI USB card!? only the on
board USB.

What can I do?

If this were IRQ conflict, the sound were distorted.
No sound at all means there is other problem.
All the rest seems ok (irq sharing is normal, PCI 2 USB is normal).
Contact tech support of your sound card.

I have tried a different sound card and the same thing
happens. I even tried 2 different PCI slots and I get the
same thing. Motherboard issue?

Have you checked the soundcard manufacturer's website for the latest drivers
for XP?

It's possible it's a motherboard issue but I'm a bit dubious. If you have
any other cards, besides the graphics card, I'd start by removing them, then
boot with just the soundcard and graphics card and see if you still have the
issue. If no, add the other cards back one by one, when the problem
reappears, it's likely that card is the culprit. It may be that you just
need to keep the soundcard in a slot that is as far from that card as
possible. Also, sometimes removing all the cards and reinstalling, again,
in different slots, will resolve the issue as this will force the system to
reassign IRQs for all the cards, not just the single soundcard.
