hey,
i have a home network setup at home. my computer which
runs windows 2000, can connect to the other computers on
my network, but the other computers which run 98 SE,
cannot connect to mine. they get a \\(computer name)
\\IPC$. and then asks for a password. i cannot figure
out how to get rid of that, bc this home network is setup
for business stuff as well and i need to be able to access
every computer without stupid things like this. plz help,
thx

harley

Well, first, DO NOT get rid of IPC$ unless you want all
sharing to cease on that machine.

How are they connecting?

The following works from NT-class machines....

Net use * \\serverName\ShareName * /user:serverOrDomain\UserName

....but I seem to remember that Win95 didn' have the password (2nd *)
and /User syntax from the command line (I don't know about 98.)

They do have "Connect As" in the GUI though.

Did you give these users an ACCOUNT to connect with?
