Network Password Problem

D

Douglas Friedel

Hello,

I've set up a network of two computers. One computer is
running Windows 2000 Pro. and the other is Windows 98.
Everything is set up correctly b/c i can see each computer
within in Network Neighborhood. Windows 2000 pc can enter
and share files with the Win 98 pc.

The problem occurs when i try to enter Windows 2000 pc
with my Win 98 pc. It asks for a password... it reads the
following:

You must supply a password to make this connection:

Resource: \\FUTURE2\IPC$

Password:

Now I've never setup a password on my windows 2000 pc.
Could you please help

Thank You Much,
Douglas Friedel

Two ways to fix this, easy way is to log onto BOTH computers with the
same name every time, OR at the very least create an account on the
Win2k machine that is exactly the same as the one on the 98 machine.
The other way is to enable the guest account but that is only used
when there are absolutely NO security concerns. The guest account
currently being disabled(by default) blocks what you are trying to do,
getting in without the computer knowing who you are.

I got the same problem after installing w2k on a network with w98
computers. The w98 computers have a name and workgroup set in the
properties of the network installation.
Because the computers are all single user computers i do not work with
different profiles.

Do you mean that i should create an account on the w2k-computer with the
name of mij w98-computer? (with or without a password). Or is it
nessesary to make a profile on each w98 computer?

You need to create a user account (or accounts) on the w2k machine with the
same user name and password that the user(s) use to log on to the 98
machine(s)
