theres something really strange i have noticed recently
i checked my ip a few days ago and my ip was
something like. 82.39.96.138
then i checked it again a few days after and it changed
to something like this 81.152.63.219
why on earth do the the ip's change.

Hi,

Your Internet Service provider assigns those numbers to you
when you connect. Dialup users are assigned a new number
each time they connect. Most Cable providers use static IP's
unless they are trying to prevent their users from running home
servers, in which case they will assign a dynamic IP leased for
x amount of time/days. The situation you described is normal.
FWIW, my DSL ISP assigns me a new IP each time I connect :-)

Yup. I'm with Blueyonder and although my IP is supposedly static but it
changes every few months.

If you need a static IP then you should try no-ip

Concerning broadband connections, you've actually got it backwards.
Most cable providers provider users dynamic IPs, but with longer
leases than those on dialup. My IP renews every seven days on my
cable connection. All the cable connection I've seen have their IP
provided via DHCP, not static IPs.

Interesting input. I'm going to have to take a poll of the
various service providers across Canada, and south of
the border to see how many no longer provide static IP.

You've peeked my curiosity. Thanks! :-)
