Invisible files in "Temporary Internet Files" folder

I've configured IE6 to automatically empty the "TIF" folder upon exit.
The folder therefore looks empty with the exception of the ".ico"
files. However, when I do my weekly virus scan, I notice Norton AV
scans a huge number of files inside the supposedly empty "TIF" folder.
I notice the files in question are located in a subfolder with "IE_5"
in its name. The "TIF" folder properties also indicates that there are
over 26,000 invisible files and 36 invisible folders occupying over 30
MB of space.

Is it safe to delete those invisible files and folders? If so, how?

Thank you.

Try looking at the files with Explorer instead of My Computer.
Can you see them now? Give some sample filenames.

This and other probelms can happen when the TIF or its index.dat file
becomes corrupted. The best solution is to delete the TIF and allow Windows
to rebuild it on the next re-boot. You don't mention what OS you are using -
the procedure is differrent for each OS. This link gives you suggestions
based upon your version of Windows. http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

Also, you may want to try a utility that addresses the IE cache problems.
Details of a free and Pro version of CacheSentry here:

Be carefull if trying the CCleaner utility mentioned on the first site. It
does work as advertised but, I do not recommend for a novice.

Since the files inside the TIF folder are *temp* by definition, are
there any reasons why I should worry about deleting those files? I am
thinking about doing so by simply deleting the TIF folder manually and
then create a new folder named TIF manually. Would that cause any
problem?

Thanks.

With all IE windows closed, right-click on the blue IE icon on Desktop >
Properties > General > Temporary Internet Files > Delete files (click on) >
Accept option to delete all offline content.

Any improvement?
