Recently unable to install software or download, when on nearing completion
fails with 'error 1327 invalid driver :F:\.
Advice much appreciated.

Many thanks Rick for all your detailed information, invaluable, printed and
on file.
Followed 'Installation Problems' instructions to the letter.
C:\Windows\temp deleted
however Windows could not find C:\Documents. but continued with the follow
up.
End result unsuccessful would I be correct in assuming that temp folders in
C:\Windows\temp are OK and have been reinstated.
Problem with all software and Windows download, not restricted to single
user.
Running Windows XP Home with SP2 installed.
Did recently have a problem with AVG Virus in that it failed to run update,
that corrected.
Any other thoughts on the problem.?
Kind Regards
Jack

Hi,

You may need to set the folder options to see hidden and system folders. Go
to the Control Panel/Folder Options, and on the View tab, set the options so
you can see hidden and system files. Specifically:

Enable (check) "Display the contents of system folders"
Enable (check) "Show hidden files and folders"
Disable (uncheck): "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)"

I also recommend that you disable (uncheck) "hide extensions for known file
types". Then delete the temp fildes under local settings for the user
accounts.

Also, start/run eventvwr.msc, check the system and application logs for
error messages. Post back with any that seem relevant.

Again many thanks Rick.
First set of instructions followed, no ploblem.

Unable to remove one file ZLT073ef TMP from Windows\temp 'being used by
other program'.

C:\Documents still not being recognised.

eventvwr.msc gave three errors
Application Log error 512
Security Log error 512
System Log error 512

Unsure on following your instruction at that point.
Hope I am not too much trouble.
Regards
Jack

Hi Jack,

The folder should be "C:\Documents and Settings", not just "C:\Documents",
try typing it into the address bar in Windows Explorer. The file that won't
delete is probably just one in use by a program (Zone Alarm is one that
comes to mind). Open the error in the event viewer, click the link to oca to
see if it brings up anything in Help & Support.
