Hi Ultima,

Rebuild the boot.ini file by following the steps in the Resolution section
of this MSKB article:

"Invalid Boot.ini" or "Windows could not start" error messages when you
start your computer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=330184

If your computer came with XP pre-installed, and you have a Recovery or
Restore CD for XP, as opposed to the retail install CD, you will need to
either borrow a retail install CD (if you know someone from whom you could
borrow the disk) or boot from the Setup boot disks in order to access the
Recovery Console. You can download the file to create the set of six setup
floppy disks from here:
How to obtain Windows XP Setup boot disks
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994/
Ensure that you dowload the appropriate file for the version that is
currently on your computer (eg., Home vs. Professional, SP1 or SP2)
Once the file has been downloaded, put the first of the six floppy disks in
the drive, then double-click on the downloaded file in order to begin
creating the setup disk set.

A WAG but the default= line is probably missing or invalid.

If your running SP2 XP Home And boot.ini dont work copy this into notepad and
save it as boot.ini:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home
Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

i just copyed the crack.ini file and now it boots.
Well that was easy

Note that rdisk and partition values change depending on where your
operating system is installed.

The only way to know the real fix is to post the text of the "invalid"
boot.ini

I'm glad that you found the fix that worked for you. However, to state that
it is "The" fix is erroneous, as SP2 XP Home (as well as other XP versions)
may be installed on a partition other than the first partition and may even
be installed on a hard disk other than the primary hard disk.
