Boot.ini error message

R

Roger Wilkerson

When I power up in the morning, I've started getting and
error message that says invalid boot.ini file.

follow directions to run bootcfg and scan or rebuild
the boot.ini file. Says it can't scan because it can't
find a boot.ini file. Run rebuild and it says that bootcfg
can't determine what os is running(only one--winxp pro sp2).

This just started on wednesday of this week. I found a
backup boot.ini file, restored it and everything is fine.

The next morning, upon powerup, same problem.

The boot.ini invalid message and there is no boot.ini
file.

Any suggestions?

Roger

I actually started on the 26th. The first thing that happens after boot
up each morning is AVG7 does a complete scan. Nothing was ever found.

On Friday after the 3rd day of this problem, I also ran Microsoft's
spyware program, and a couple of others.

MS's Antispyware did find a couple of spyware programs that AVG did not.
They were quarantined.

Interesting thing is that the problem was not reproduced on
Saturday(29th) or Sunday(30th)

It seems you must have some process running that's deleting the file. Might
be helpful if you can determine when it happens.

That is what I've been attempting to do. The weird thing is that the
file is there when I shut everything down(as far as I know);however, the
next morning it was gone.

I should say however that the problem has gone away the last three days.
Everything is now back to normal.
