Hi,
Need some help with this,how is it whenI write emails,I used to get the
full mail address's by just typing in the Initial letter of the mail address
!!when I type in for instance the letter m, all the mail address'es starting
with this letter come up,bit of a pain writing all the address.

Outlook Express has an Options item on the Tools menu. You will find a
checkbox for 'autocomplete' there.

Hello aga,

You don't say which e-mail client you're using, but if this is Outlook
Express, go to Tools => Options => Send tab.
Check that the box 'Automatically complete e-mail addresses when
composing' is checked.

joy,anything else I can try

Sounds like you have have lost all your contacts listings. Open the Address
Book link on the OE menu, to see what is there. Only items in your address
book will autocomplete.

Hi,
This can happen if your Contact folder is damaged or corrupt. Did you tries
to compact and clean up OE lately?.

Run this command:
sfc /scannow click [OK] and when it finished Reboot your machine, does it
help?.
Here are some info, please read them thoroughly if it will apply to you
Backup your messages and Contact/Address Book folder first then try the
instructed steps/repair!.

Hi Mark,
Opened the address book in OE,and there are 2 contact address'es,
one is
Shared Contacts, the other
Allan's Contacts,

All the address'es is in the shared contacts,there is nothing in Allan's
Contacts,do I need to move the names from shared to Allan's,cannot understand
why there is a shared contacts list as I'm the only one who uses this PC.

Yes, you are probably seeing an imported address book, probably from an
upgrade, but whatever, you should probably select the 'add reply addresses
to my contacts' and copy the shared data over. The auto-complete should then
function as you wish.

Hi Mark,
Thought I might try the click and drag from Shared to Allan's, not
a good Idea,now there is nothing in the book,I tried to add from emails and
an message said; an error occured, outlook express could not add the sender
to the address book.

Is there any way I could go back and start again! I cannot delete the 2
contacts,i.e. Shared and Allan's, message says cannot delete,and now it
cannot add to the address book, what can I try now. Yahooooooooooooo

You can generate a new address book file with the command: WAB /NEW

Hi,Mark'
Not entirely sure If I've got this right,I have got the new
address book,through the wab/new command in the 'run' command,I'm not to sure
about how to go about the registry entries,the only way I can open the
address book is by clicking on the 'run' button,how do I save Address to say
the accessories file or wherever,I did try and use the type on initial letter
but still does not work but then I'm not sure as to how to set everything
up,getting a bit to advanced for me now,maybe you could run that bit through
for me,much appreciate your excellent help but the 'silver surfer' it is
getting a bit difficult.

If that site's info wasn't enough to let you replace the <user>.wab file,
you should seek local help to do it.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for all your help,much appreciated,just before you go,I've
been thinking ,this might have all happened after changing from OE6 TO OE
7,might this have some bearing on this problem,one more for you,on the inbox
of Oe,the address's on the toolbar,when I click this it shows the old address
book with the 2 contacts,how do I delete this as there appears to be no
option for deletion.

I will try and work out what to do in the Inside outlook express and backup
file,maybe I just might hit the lucky spot.
