Internet Shortcut Icon - HELP!!!

K

Katrina Vlasich

I uninstalled the SBC Yahoo! DSL Software on my PC and ever since the icon
that usually represents an 'Internet Shortcut' (The e with a page behind
it) has changed. Now Internet Shortcuts that I had and any new ones I add
are represented by that icon that is normally for an 'Unknown File Type'
(a window with colored objects in front of a page).
However, if I check the properties any link that I have saved under
'Favorites', the 'Type of file' is 'Internet Shortcut'. What is even more
intriguing is that if I chose 'Change Icon' inside the 'Properties' window,
the typical 'Internet Shortcut' icon is highlighted. So if I hit 'OK' to
exit out of 'Properties' the icon is changed back to the typical 'Internet
Shortcut' icon. I could go and restore everything that way, but it wouldn't
fix the underlying problem.

To fix this I tried to re-install IE6... No luck!
I have also tried restoring the Internet Desktop Icon association...No luck!

In Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) , in the Tools=>Folder Options,
on the File Types tab find the entry for files of type 'Internet Shortcut'
(.url). Press the Advanced button. You will find an option there to change
the icon. This will affect the display of all files of that type including
those files represented by shortcuts on your Desktop.
