I have 2 PCs on XP home, crossed network cable and dial
up modem. Can share files, printer but cannot have
access to the internet through the host. Firewalls are
disabled. Bizarre..client can disconnect and reconnect
host from internet dial up connection but when I try
opening a browser, the search times out and cannot
display page. Cannot ping host either. ????? Though
can access info from host...how bizarre?
any ideas on how to get internet running on client?
thanks, rach

are you using ICS? can you ping a public ip like 4.2.2.1? if yes, can you
ping yahoo.com. If not, check the DNS settings.

I have the same issue as you with regard to no being able
to ping the host.

I have just turned off my mcafee firewall on the host and
i can now ping the host from the client. Seems to work
OK now.

Give it a try.

I have the exact same setup. No problem having internet access on the
client. Did you run the Home Network Wizard? Make sure you don't have ANY
firewall running. After I got everything working I emabled the windows
built in firewall on the modem connection that dials in to the internet
on the host computer. It will protect the client also.
Good luck
