Internet Explorer doesn't know to use network adaptor to access ne

I have two computers in my home network. The host is an XP Pro system
(hardwired to router) and the client is a wireless 98SE laptop. I am trying
to share my dial-up connection. The file sharing works fine. The client
98SE system is able to enable/disable the host XP dial-up connection via the
Internet Gateway since I ran the XP disk on the 98SE system to setup the
network. But, when I click on the IE icon on the 98SE system to browse the
web, the age-old "Cannot find page, blah, blah, blah" page shows up. I'm
confused because I can dial up the connection perfectly fine from the client
98SE system. In other words, when I click on "enable" on the client, the
host computer dials up. But it's as if Internet Explorer doesn't know to use
the wireless
adaptor to access the web. Could it be that it's still trying to use the
laptop's old modem to access it? Do I need to unistall the modem software on
the client? How do I tell Internet Explorer to use the wireless adaptor to
access the web? All of my firewalls are turned off so I know that's not it.

Perhaps OT, but may I ask why you want to use ICS and dialup when you say
you have a router? Do you have a wireless access point, or is this a combo
AP/router?

It's a combination access point/router. How else would I share my dial-up
connection other than using ICS on the host computer? Is there a way to set
it up so that the router shares it? I didn't think I could do it any other
way. Do you have any input?

There are some analog modem routers out there, but I haven't seen one for a
while, and I don't remember seeing one that had wireless capabilities. Why
do you have a router at all if you have only dialup?

Lanwench,
I have a router because I didn't know of any other way to connect these two
computers. Is there some other way to do it without the router?

I've been tinkering with this internet problem over the past few days and I
finally got the thing to work. I had to adjust the TCP/IP settings in the
laptop to get the internet gateway to work properly. There's only one other
question that I have that you might be able to help me with. I have to shut
down Zone Alarm in the host XP computer to allow the laptop (client) to work
on the web. Zone alarm, when running, prohibits the laptop from viewing any
pages on the web. I tried adjusting the "exceptions" settings in Zone Alarm,
but I can't seem to do it just right so as to allow the laptop to access the
web while Zone Alarm is running. The laptop only views web pages when Zone
Alarm is shut down. Any input?

Yes; a simple Ethernet switch.

No idea; I don't use ZA. Glad you got it working, though - now it's just a
tweaking issue. Might look at ZA's help/support.

Ethernet switch is no good! It's an older laptop. It doesn't have ethernet
capabilities unless I buy an Ethernet PCMCIA card. And since I had to buy a
PCMCIA card one way or the other, I thought I'd make it wireless instead of
hardwired via ethernet.
