Internet connectio

I just upgraded my laptop from 98SE to XP Professional and I have two
network/internet issues.

1. I don't see my Wireless Ethernet adaptor anymore in Network connections
but if I unplug it XP gives me an audible warning.

2. My wired connection shows as connected and warns me if I unplug the
cable, but I do not appear to be picking up an IP address and it will not let
me renew through IPCONFIG.

So basically I have a machine that cannot see the outside world; any ideas?
Is this common.

Thanks

After you upgraded to XP did you install any chipset/video/audio/LAN drivers
for XP that should be on a CD that came with the laptop or on the
manufacturer's web site as downloads?

Everyone will tell you that you should have downloaded any and all drivers
needed for XP BEFORE installing XP.

For some reason, the network adapters didn't get properly installed in
XP. Uninstalling and reinstalling them should fix the problem:

1. Run Device Manager (Start | Run | devmgmt.msc).
2. Click the plus sign next to "Network adapters".
3. Right-click and uninstall all network adapters and unknown devices.

If XP doesn't have built-in drivers for your network adapters, you
might have to download the drivers on another computer and transfer
them to the first computer.
