internet problems

My friend i having problems with her internet. At first it kept displaying pop ups every time she accessed a new website, now the pop ups don't close if you try and get rid of them. She also is no longer able to type in new web addresses and can only access sites through her history or her emails through MSN which automatically signs her in when she connects to the internet. Can anyone help? Someone suggested that she reload her whole system but we wanted to see if there was an alternative that could be done instead, preferably without the aid of the internet as it is not working.

Go to www.majorgeeks.com look on the left sidebar for
spyware tools. On that page find SpyBot Search & Destroy
(this is the new version 1.3.5) and download and run it.
Should fix the problem.

Also be sure you have a firewall turned on.
