Internet options - LAN Settings keep changing

Every time I restart my computer the flag for Automatically detect settings
is reset with a check. I then have to remove the check to access the internet.

I am running XP Pro with SP2 and all updates are current.
I have just installed IE7 however the problem existed with IE6 as well.
