Internet options choices unstable

I am experiencing a puzzling problem. I use Direcway 2-way satellite
service, XP SP2 and IE 6. I was unable to view any web pages. I was told to
go to the Tools area, select Internet Options, the Connections, and select
LAN settings, then check automatic detect settings and uncheck proxy server
use. This worked! Unfortunately, everytime I restart the computer, the
settings reset themselves so that both the automatic detect AND the proxy
server boxes are checked, and again I can't acccess web pages. How can I
keep my connections settings stable from session to sesssion? Thanks for
any help!

go to Restart modem: http://192.168.0.1/sbc/exit/ and restart the modem
after you uncheck and apply the LAN settings.
