Internet Explorer will not show web pages, Firefox does.

Internet Explorer will not display any web pages, or do Windows Updates.

Firefox works. It is NOT a proxy setting, not what is obvious anyway.

I spent two days cleaning MAlware off machine. Also used SFC /SCANNOW.

Was using ie6, but due to it not displaying web pages, I downloaded ie7 with firefox, and installed ie7.

Still have the same problem. It does act like a proxy problem. Malware reisidual affect?

ie7 DOES display local files okay.

Is there a registry setting that could have been tampered with?
Other computers in house work fine.

More information:

Internet Explorer works fine on pages residing on shares of other computer on my home network.

Content Advisor is disabled. I tried a test by enabling it and adding msn.com to the authorized list. Still did not
work, so I have disabled Content Adviser and set everything back to how it was.

Could Malware found a way of "requiring a proxy" but of course no proxy exists?

Maybe one of these:

Flush DNS

Click Start, Run, type:

IPConfig /FlushDNS [Press Enter key]

NETSH

Click Start, Run, type:

netsh winsock reset

Press Enter key

Restart the system

You can also try this software download from a working machine:

I have similar symptoms with three PC's at the office, all behaving the same
way.

Proxy is correct, TCP/Ip stack is all DHCP, no static settings. Box can ping
gateway and DNS with no problem. I can connect to it remotely with no
problem. However, no browser web access or email via Outlook. No spyware, no
firewall SW installed.

I am stumped and may have to reimage these boxes unless I figure this one
out. Will try the below suggestions. Seems like it could be name resolution
issue but with all DHCP am not sure where to look

Use my Remove-it software

It will block access to reputable anti-malware sites approved by all

Do you really want to download and run something from a person that the

Thanks for the warning though.

Remedy to what problem? What same problem? "no body is there what to
do"? What does THAT mean?

Instead of replying to a post, you have started a new thread, meaning
ALL context and reference to the thread of your interest is totally
missing. Try again, but this time Reply instead of starting a new
thread.
One good way to fix that is get away from the gui web interface and
use an actual newsreader such as the one XP provides in Outlook Express,
or one of the many, many other alternatives available.

RTFM. It'll tell you how to reply. Then start using an actual
newsreader so you can be understood.

HTH,

Twayne
