Have a problem with a xp professional machine that will
not connect to the Internet or Outlook express. Can use
the dial up ok and connects to the server but from there
thie page in IE will not show. Have tried connecting it
to another xp machine to see if the barrier can be broken
but cannot even connect to the network.
Before joining the network I pinged 127.0.0.1 and
replies ok and also 192.168.0.1 with replies. When I
ping the computer name get a negative.
After joining the network ( problem computer = client)I
tried using a different IP 192.168.0.10 as the server
networked computer holds the 192.168.0.1 address but no
joy. No replies are received from pinging 192.168.0.10 on
the client. I was able to get the server to see the
client but even though I have file and print sharing on
and a folder shared was not able to get any access -
received an access is denied error and to contact the
administrator. Both client and server computers have
administrator rights.
Would appreciate any ideas from here. The problem
computer has had the Sasser virus but this has been
cleaned out and has connected to the Internet since and
updates are in place for Windows and antivirus program

Try looking at the internet firewall in the advanced
settings on the networking tabs
Have checked for firewalls and can;t see any.
I can ping yahoo.com and get replies ok and also ping
192.168.0.1 with replies but if i try to ping the
ipconfig ip address no replies.
Can't see any of the other 2 computers on the network or
it comes up with a permission error.
Can't browse the internet at all nor check emails
