Internet Explorer shutdown

I am experiencing problem with "internet exporer has encountered problem and
will shutdown". I re-installed but now I have a loop with critical updates
not installing although they say they have installed after I reboot I still
have the same or +1 updates to install. I think explorer is shuting down
during install but message doesn't come up. I would really appreciate any
help. Thanks.

Carolynne, save your important files and format and do a clean install
if possible.
