internet explorer running slow

Hi,
Just a quickie as I am off to work.

When I am on the internet, I use internet explorer, it is taking ages to
load web site to start with and also taking ages to change to new pages.

I t also take a long time to go back a page

I can see in windows task manager that the ieexplore exe is using 98/99%
most of the time and the little green bow in the systray reads cpu 100% all
of the time

Any ideas

Many thanks

Steve

1. Make sure the computer is completely virus/malware-free as a first
troubleshooting step:

2. If the machine is clean, run IE in no-add-ons mode. Third-party
add-ons like toolbars, etc. can really mess up IE.

Run IE7 without add-ons - Start > Run>iexplore.exe -extoff [enter] OR
Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)

MS webpage explaining add-ons: http://tinyurl.com/2tro8f

Is the "Phishing Filter" enabled ? Also does the PC have all the available
Microsoft updates applied to it ? I'd also check to see what Add-ons IE
has hooked into it. Several Add-ons may need updating such as Java &
Shockwave and Flash Players.

Hi thanks for the replies I have just noticed that iexplore.exe is running
at 98% (mem usage 45,536 K) all the time!!! even when I am not running
anything - system idle is at 0% (mem usage 16 K)

Down the bottom of the task manager it says 57 processes, I'm gonna give my
other half a good beating, she has filled her handbag up just the same - its
more like a suitcase actually!!!!!!

Cheers Steve
