Internet Explorer problems...

I am having problems with Internet Explorer.. It does not display pages, just
says 'done' with a blank page... I also get strange errors, like ' Cookies
object error 'ASP 0200 : 80004005'

Out of Range 'Expires' attribute

/common/login.asp, line 64

The date and time given for 'Expires' precedes Jan 1, 1980 or excedes Jan
19, 2038, 3:14:07 GMT. '

I tried to scan my computer for viruses online, but I couldnt.. the pages
didn't open... I have eTrust EZ Antivirus and it can update, but it doesnt
find viruses or anything...

I downloaded Netscape and Fire Fox, they work better than Internet Explorer,
but still they dont open all pages...

What do I do? Please help
Nancy

i'm guessing here, but maybe it is choking on a corrupted cookie.
did you try after deleting all cookies ?

p.s.
there are some web sites on the www that will not open properly in
Firefox, but this is not a problem with Firefox.

Windows will not "choke on a cookie", although that is an interesting
and colorful guess. Nancy, please scan for malware as follows, doing
everything with updated tools in Safe Mode. Since you have difficulties
in getting to the Internet, you will probably have to download the
necessary tools and updates on a different computer which has a working
Internet connection and a cd burner. Or take the machine to a good
local computer professional (not a BestBuy or CompUSA type of store).

1) Scan in Safe Mode with current version (not earlier than 2004)
antivirus using updated definitions.

Before you remove malware, get LSPFix (or WinSockFix for XP which you
can get from MajorGeeks) - see links below.

2) Remove spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-aware. These
programs are free, so use them both since they complement each other.
There is a new version of CWShredder from Intermute. I would not
install the other Intermute programs, however. Alternately, there are
CoolWebSearch malware removal steps at SilentRunners.

Be sure to update these programs before running, and it is a good idea
to do virus/spyware scans in Safe Mode. Make sure you are able to see
all hidden files and extensions (View tab in Folder Options).

If the malware remains even after you used Ad-aware and Spybot, you can
scan with HijackThis. HijackThis is an excellent tool to discover and
disable hijackers, but it requires expert skill. See below for
HijackThis links, including sites where you can post your HJT logs. A
combination of HijackThis and About:Buster works well in removing the
About:Blank homepage hijacker. Again, this is an expert tool and
novices should get help with it.

3) If you are running Windows ME or XP, you should disable/enable System
Restore after the system is clean because malware will be in the
Restore Points. With ME, you must disable System Restore completely.
With XP, you can delete all but the most recent (presumably clean)
System Restore point from the More Options section of Disk Cleanup
(Run>cleanmgr).

4) Make sure you've visited Windows Update and applied all security
patches. Do not install driver updates from Windows Update.

5) Run a firewall.

Thanks Malke for your reply
I tried scanning my comp with spybot, then Ad-aware, both found spyware,
which i cleaned except for Altnet registry values because I have Kazaa and
Diet K ( will those registry values do any harm?) Then I ran WinSockFix...
However, IE is still not working... I forgot to mention this but the IE
Help->About is blank, it doesnt show the version, cipher strength or product
ID.. Would re-installing Internet Explorer help? Where do I get IE? I didn't
get a Windows CD with my computer..

I see this often. "Scan in safe mode". Why? What is wrong with
scanning in the regular mode.
I'm using XPproSP2 and Norton's anti-virus, and Adware. Everything
up to date. And Norton runs in the background continually + I do a
full system scan once a week.

Because if the file is in use, your scanners will not be able to remove the
file. Safe mode loads only files it needs to operate the system.
