internet explorer 7 on window xp (not responding)

running internet explorer 7 on window xp have noticed lately while browsing
and opening some several pages at a time that the page freezes and stops
responding where i have to close it and re-open explorer again any idea as to
what may be the cause of this problem??

can you please provide more detailed information such as

a) Is there an application crash or system crash ( OS )

b) what is the version of wininet.dll

c) have you updated all the services packs to the latest ?

d) also provide me the version of shell32.dll

as far as crash or system crash ( OS ) i dont experience a crash all what
happens is that the page freezes and doesnt respond which pushes me to close
it and re open it

as far as the the version of wininet.dll and version of shell32.dll pls
can you advise me where i can check this to let u know?

as far as service packs iam on service pack 2 now

Hi Allure,

These both files are present in c:\windows\system32 folder.

Also is this issue happening with one website or multiple websites ?
it this is happening with one website then is this an activex supported
website ?
Please check the addons which you have installed on IE

TOOLS--> Internet Options --> programs --> manage addons and let mekn ow
what are installed.

well this issue is happening lets say when u open at times multiple website
it could be two or three or more... now as far as the add ons installed there
are

the ones loades in internet explorer
and there are the ones been used by internet explorer
and the ones that run without requiring permission
which of those u want me to check for you ?

wininet.dll is version 7.0.6000.16640
shell32.dll is version 6.0.2900.3241

Thanks for the reply

The wininet.dll version is up to the latest which is ms08-024 IE cumulative
patch.

Questions
=======
a) Now is this issue happening when opening specific websites ? or any
website ?

b) Is this issue happening only on one client or multiple clients or on all
the clients ?

c) Can you please provide me the website name so that i can check the same

d) During the application hang , does CPU utilization spike up to 100 % ?

e) Disable add -ons and try accessing the webpages

f) To eliminate the 3rd party utilities pelase use msconfig to disable 3rd
party services or go to safe mode with networking to repro the issue
