What kind of Internet connection are you using?
Dial-Up or DSL (PPPoE)?
You apparently upgraded from XP Home with Service Pack 1
to XP Pro without Service Pack 1
That means you also wiped out all XP critical updates including
the one that patches the vulnerability that MSBLASTER worm
and its variants exploit and so you MUST enable the XP
Internet Connection Firewall or have a functioning third-party
firewall enabled before connecting to the Internet again and then
get Service Pack 1 and all critical updates installed again.
