Internet explorer errors

T

Tabitha

Everytime I try to open IE 6.0, I get two pop-up errors.
The first says that Internet explorer has performed an
illegal operation and will be shut down. Then a second
pop-up says that it has encountered a problem, and that I
should restart my computer. I've tried restarting, and
I've scanned with ad-aware and Norton. Nothing comes
up. Also, my home page keeps changing itself. I've
found that when I click a link to an internet webpage,
the browser will open without performing an illegal
operation, but it won't do anything and remains blank,
and if I try going to a different web address, it
performs the illegal operations I explained before.

Any help that anyone could give me would be greatly
appreciated.

Check your system for "hijackware":

Dealing with Hijackware

Important: You *must* seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each
and every use, even "right out of the box". But even they can't catch
everything, 24/7. When all else fails, HijackThis
(http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
your files to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or
http://forum.mvps.org/viewforum.php?f=30 for expert analysis, not here.**

[Alternate download pages for many of the above tools may be found at
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.]

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?

You solved my problem! Thanks! Note however that Tabitha is probably unable to get to the URL since IE is not working. Looks like one of the symptoms of this issue is that while IE fails, windows explorer will still work. So Tabitha may need to copy and paste the URL into windows explorer to run the check.....
