Internet Explorer configuration help

Hello, can anyone tell me how to configure filetypes while
browsing on Internet Explorer? When I would click on
certain files it automatically downloads them without
giving me a prompt on what to do. Is there any way to
make it so that certain programs open in I.E. with a
prompt to OPEN/SAVE/CANCEL or atleast allow me to use
certain programs while viewing certain files? Thanks.
 
Right click on the Hyperlink to display the context menu. There is an option
the to "Save target as"
