After installing the last IE7 update. I got timeout errors when using email.
Acting on a suggestion from the technical help at Simply.com, I started on
the problem by examining the Windows Security Centre < Windows Firewall.
The "Don't allow exceptions" box had become ticked, so I un-ticked it.
This didn't solve the problem, so I re-visited the Windows Firewall and
clicked on the Exceptions tag. MS Outlook was not in the list, so I clicked
on the Add Programme button, then Browsed for the relevant .exe file. But
where was it? Examining the shortcut on the desktop brought no joy, even
right-clicking on it and clicking on 'Properties' failed to yield the
required info - MS seems to have fixed it so you can't find out the programme
address!
Finally, after a little fishing about in the computer, I got the address:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\
and of course, the filename was
outlook.exe
So I entered all that under
Start < Control Panel < Security Centre < Manage Security Setting for:
Windows Firewall < Path (Browse)
and joy of joy!
* My email WORKED AGAIN *
But I think MicroSoft could have made it a little easier...
