Internet Explorer 6 (Win200 Pro) will not load

For some reason Internet Explorer 6 will not longer load. Not from any
shortcut or menu option, nor from my contact manager which usually will
launch it when double-clicking on a contacts web address in their record.

Only thing that has been changed in system in last few days was to install
Abobe Acrobat 6... not sure this problem started immediately after that (ie,
I think IE did work since then).

Any solutions?

Open the Internet Options applet in Control Panel
Uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions" on the Advanced tab.
You may also have to set the Home Page to about:blank

Then eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

Well.... I can't even get into my Control Panel. Here's what I did:
- closed all programs,
- restarted my computer,
- Start, Control Panel (click), and...
- ...instead of having the Control Panel open, the Desktop screen went
blank (all blue) for a few moments, then all of the shortcut icons on the
Desktop re-appeared. (back to where I started..)

Hello,

Thank you for posting here.

You may perform an in-place upgrade of Windows 2000:

1. Insert the Windows 2000 Setup CD into the CD-ROM drive, start the
computer, and then press a key to start from the CD-ROM.

2. On the Windows 2000 Setup screen, press ENTER to run the "To set up
Windows 2000 now, press Enter" command.

3. Click Accept to accept the License Agreement.

4. Setup should now detect your installation. NOTE: If the Setup program
does not detect a previous installation but just continues to the
partitioning screen, there is a problem. An in-place upgrade may not be
possible.

5. When you are prompted to repair the existing Windows 2000 installation,
press R. Windows 2000 Setup performs an in-place upgrade of the existing
installation. Note that you might lose some of your customized settings for
the system files.

Open the Internet Options applet in Control Panel
Well.... I can't even get into my Control Panel.

An alternative would be to Run... (press Win-R and enter:)

control inetcpl.cpl
