Internet Explorer 6 - Favorites problem

I have a bookmark file that we share back and forth in our family. The
problem is that it has gotten up to above 1,000 links recently and Internet
Explorer, no matter which computer it is done from, seems to drop links and
whole folders during the export.

Is there a known limitation to how many links it can export? I searched the
knowledge base and found no references.
