Internet Explorer 6.0 as default browser

Recently Netscape Communicator suddenly became the default
browser on my Windows XP Home Edition computer. Having
already clicked the PROGRAMS tab of INTERNET OPTIONS off
the CONTROL PANEL, then checked the box to have IE check
to see if the it's the default browser, clicking OK and
resarting IE both before and after restarting my computer,
IE still does NOT ask to be made the default browser.

Netscape Communicator 4.7 is an old browser program. I
plan on uninstalling it if I ever solve this problem.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

Start/Run/[CMD for XP]. Type this command: REGSVR32 URLMON.DLL
Ok/Reboot.
Then go to: IE/Tools/Internet Options/Programs/Reset Web Settings.

Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/File Types. Scroll down to
URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol/Advanced/Edit. Under Application used to
perform action it should read:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome

Login as Administrator and repeat the process of setting the default browser

Open Internet Explorer > Tools > Options > Programs and enable the option:
"Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser"
Close IE and open again. Click YES if you are prompted to set it as default browser.

(or)

Download the .reg fix. Set Internet Explorer as default browser:

* Use this only if IE is installed in its default location [c:\Program Files\Internet Explorer] *
