Check out Power Management options for the network adapter (Local Area
Connection Properties - Configure - Power Management tab) and make sure that you
haven't enabled "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

unchecked the box, will wait to see if it works after
awhile. Thanx !!!

I have a similar problem -- when the system has been idle
for some time, I lose connection to the internet. To
restore the connection, I have to disable the LAN
connection (in Network Connections), and the re-enable
it. That solution works everytime, but I would prefer not
having the disconnection in the first place. I disabled
Power Management, but the problem persists.

I attempted the solution suggested below, but there is no
Power Management tab that I can find for the Netgear
FA311.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Jeff,

Does the sequence "ipconfig /release" then "ipconfig /renew" have any effect? I
made a batch file with that sequence, triggered by a shortcut.

Chuck,

I tried that a while ago as a preventive measure -- but that did not work. I
think what you are getting at is using that sequence instead of
disabling/enabling from Network Connections. I'll give that a try and let you
know. If that works, perhaps it will give us a better idea of what is causing
the problem.

Thanks.

OK, Jeff, give it a shot. And let's look for the cause of the problem when we
know more.
