Internet Connection Setup always runs

I gave a recently downgraded computer from my office to my GF, and while
everything is fine if logged on as Administrator, whenever she's logged on
as herself, (I even gave her admin rights), the first time she logs on to
the Internet after starting the computer, the Internet Connection Wizard
always runs. She's on a cable connection, and she can just cancel out and
everything connects and runs just fine - it's just annoying that it always
comes up.

Any idea why it's doing this, and what I can do to stop it?

Thanks - John

Seems this is a known issue w/ no work-around, according to Microsoft:

Internet Connection Wizard Starts After You Close Browser Window
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;283309

However, you can try and disable the ICW:
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article04-005

If you are running Win2K or XP you can also disable it via the policy
editor(Start...Run...gpedit.msc):
User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet
Explorer

Or, there's a registry setting you can apply:
http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/537/ - if you are comfortable
editing the registry (Start...Run...regedit)

Thanks for all this info! I'll check it out, but won't be able to report
back for a few days, after I've tried them...

You're most welcome. Having to support a GF's computer. Now, that's
something I don't envy.... <bg>

Well, what I ended up doing is checking Task Manager to see what file the
Internet Connection Wizard was running, then renaming the file. Completely
solved the problem, and I can always rename it if I need to run it again.
