I'm using XP-I have three seperate accounts from Cox high-
speed internet service. I'm using a hub and modem
setup. Several weeks ago I started having connection
problems (intermittent) I finally bought another
modem, hub and cables because cox said nothing wrong at
there end. Now it seems that only one computer has
problems. I'll start it and try to get on the internet
and the standard page comes up saying that maybe I have a
problem with my isp, check my settings, etc. When I unplug
my cat 5 cable from my system and immediately plug it
back in then I can get connection.

I had a similar problem with Time Warner RoadRunner service. It ended up being a signal strength problem from the drop coming to my apartment. Keep bugging them until they find out where it is being attenuated. Don't keep buying more equipment. Based on the information you provided, the recurrence of the same problem indicates that the problem most likely exists at the signal going into your modem, unless the CAT5 connector is bad. Check to see if it is oxidized or looks blackened or burned. Good Luck. ISP's can be a pain!

I have had the same problem as well with XP. I have Verizon DSL, an
all was woring great. Then the intermittent stuff started, and the
bam no go. It is not a router problem for I have both Llinux and Win9
on this box, and they work flawlessly with the router and interne
connections. It is a XP Pro networking issue, and I have don
everything at this point. I am now connecting straight to the mode
when I use XP, and the router (most of the time) when running linux.
can't see why Bill Gates is getting so worried about an operatin
system that actually works (lol).
