Internet connection delays with Vista - a possible solution

I don't know if this can be of help to anyone.
I had a connection delay of 5 minutes with Vista Home Premium on cold
boot or on wakeup from hibernation.
Drove me crazy - spent hours on the phone with HP (what a waste!).
Finally one day I turned Windows Firewall off and, presto!, immediate
connection.
Now as soon as I wake up the computer, I turn off Windows Firewall,
wait one second, turn it on again, works every time!
Just my two cents.
(I don't like Vista)

Have you posted this problem to the microsoft.public.windows.vista.security
newsgroup to see if anyone has seen this or has any suggestions?

I would be leery of disabling the firewall if there is a possibility of an
active connection to the internet, particularly if the system wasn't behind
at least a NAT router.

you might try removing the connection from the allowed items in the firewall.
reboot and try it again, telling the firewall to allow the connection.
