Internet connection being lost periodically

I am running vists SP1. Periodically I am losing the internet connection
when using internet explorer. I can't seem to find any relevant error
messages. The internet is still there for other computers. Turning off the
firewall doesn't make any difference. The only solution is to reboot;
logging off and on doesn't work. I have run antivius and spyware but
nothing found.

Any ideas how I can diagnose the problem please?

Hi,

Is the time interval fairly consistent? This could indicate a faulty network
card, or supporting driver. Downloading and installing a more recent driver
release from the network card maker would be the first step.

You might also try running the following from an elevated command prompt*.
Make sure any program that uses an internet connection (web browser, email
program, etc.) is closed first.

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew

You will get a successful message after each. If not, post back with which
one fails. Otherwise, close the command prompt and reopen web programs.

*To get an elevated command prompt, click start and type cmd. Right click
the entry that appears in the start menu and choose 'run as administrator'.

This happened to me regularly when I had my LinkSys router's encryption set
at WPA. Had to lower the encryption to WEP 128 in order to resolve the
problem. Vista Home Premium 32-bit; wireless g. Any similarity?

I am not sure why this would happen when my computers running XP are ok.
Anyway, I would be reluctant to reduce security but thanks for the
suggestion

Our XP laptop at the time wasn't having a problem either. I know how you
feel about security, though!

I assume you've looked in the Event Viewer immediately after the
connection drops?

If this is a wireless connection, it could be a momentary lapse in signal?
