?Losing Internet Connection - Please help me

I have a new computer with Windows Vista Home Edition. My computer is
connected to a cable modem (Motorola SB5120). I'm constantly losing
connection to the internet - All the lights in the modem stays on.

When this happens, I have to right click on the network icon in the system
tray (internet globe) to diagnose and repair.
Windows suggests:
1) A problem with your network router or broadbent modem might be preveting
an internet connection (requires to turn off the modem and unplug the power
cord)
2) Automatic get new IP settings for the network adapter
3) Reset network adapter "Local Area Connection"

I have tried option 1 and 3, but the problem continues.

I had the same problem with my old windows XP computer.

Is this problem created by the modem? Should I replace the modem (which is
only 1 yr old)

Any suggestions.

Start a Command Prompt, and type:
IPCONFIG

Your "Default Gateway" is the IP of the modem. When it fails, use the prompt
to run the command:
ping 192.168.0.1 (or whatever your default gateway happens to be)

Usually, if you go to that site with IE (e. g. http://192.168.0.1) you may
get a report on the modems connectivity at the moment.

Since you had the same problem with your other computer I would suggest the
problem is your modem or an issue with your ISP.
