wireless connection

I set up my 3Com modem/router with an ethernet connection to my PC which has
an onboard wireless network card. I would like to disconnect the ethernet
cable but retain my link to the wireless network, PC to modem/router. Is
this possible and how do I achieve it? (Currently when I disconnect the
ethernet cable I lose my internet connection). (Windows Vista Home
Premium).

These may seem like stoopid points, but without more detail, I can only
guess...

Is your router a wireless router?

If so, you have to ensure that your router's configured to provide wireless
service. (wireless capability enabled, iow...)

If so, you have to know what kind of wireless security is enabled on your
router. (WEP, WPA, is MAC filtering enabled?)

If you have wireless security, you're going to have to configure your PC to
work with said security. (and the wireless NIC in your PC may, or may not,
be compatible with whatever wireless security scheme is supported by your
router)

As the OP responding to your query pointed out... this is better suited to
one of the wireless NG's as this is not, at least I don't believe so, a
Vista issue.
