Internet Access

I have Vista Ultimate SP1. I can connect to the internet when I first switch
on the computer but after a while it drops me off.
The only way I can connect again is to pull power cord from modem, replace
after about 1 minuite and sometimes it will work, at other time I have to re
boot.

I have a computer running XP from same modem with no problems.

Any ideas

Hi Mike,

So resetting the power on the modem resolves it? That would seem to indicate
a problem with the modem, not the computer.

On the pc side, steps I would take include:

- Updating/reinstalling network card drivers, best done with drivers from
the manufacturer, not windows update or the pc maker.
- rebuilding the tcp stack and flushing the resolver cache from an elevated
command prompt, ie:
-- ipconfig /flushdns
-- netsh winsock reset (requires a reboot sometimes)

If those fail, then you may need to replace the network card.
