Internet Browser Issues

Hey guys,

I am having issues with opening internet browsers on my computer. I am
running windows XP SP2. Every time I try to open internet explorer OR
firefox, the page freezes. My home page does not load. I have to close
it through task manager. CPU usage is at 100%.

This is not spyware/malware. I have tried scannin with Windows
Defender, Spybot Search and Destroy, AVG Antivirus, and ADAware. I do
not have a current version of HijackThis installed, and whenever I try
to open an older version, I get an error message saying invalid
picture. I cannot download another version of HijackThis, because I
cannot access the internet. However, I am almost positive that there
wouldn't be any problems with the log.

I have tried limiting my startup programs to only what is needed by
Windows, it did not work.
I re-registered the following DLL files: scrrun.dll, msxml.dll,
Browseui.dll, Msjava.dll, Shdocvw.dll, Urlmon.dll, Actxprxy.dll,
Oleaut32.dll, Shell32.dll. When I tried to register Mshtml.dll, it
failed.

I cannot open internet options for either browser because the page just
freezes and I cannot access anything.

It is only the browsers that are having trouble accessing the internet.
Windows media player, Itunes, GAIM, Gmail notifier, and Google talk,
all access the internet just fine.

Please Help,
Chris

Invalid picture, or invalid image? There's an important difference. What
is the exact wording of the message?
I cannot download another version of HijackThis, because I
cannot access the internet.

Download it from another system onto any removable media. You only need
the executable, you do not have to run an install. It's 213K for the
executable, or 203K for the complete ZIP. You could email it to yourself
or have a friend do so.

Also, download Process Explorer from here:

http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html

And run it *before* you open the browser, set to Show Process Tree.

Arrange the windows so you can see both the browser (you don't need to see
much of that at all). Then open the browser and look to see what is using
CPU cycles. This should give you a good clue.
