The Internet Browser Icon is no longer visible on the desktop. What is the

The dirty way is if you can find it in the start->programs->accessories
(I think) then just right-click and copy that shortcut to the desktop.

Desktop icon

For XP:
Control Panel-Display Properties-Desktop tab.

Your suggestions deal with displaying the Desktop. The OP's question pertains to
displaying the IE icon on the desktop.

There is no keyboard shortcut to "display an Icon on the desktop".
Please review Windows Help and Support.

Here is a fix that I found via the group;
you'll have to hack the registry to do it, go here and modify; (BACKUP your
registry before modifing)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDe
sktopIcons\NewStartPanel

Once there, locate {871c5380-42a0-1069-a2ea-08002b30309d} in the list on the
right.

Right click on it and select Modify. Change the value equal to 0. Exit the
registry, Reboot your computer.

I hope this helps.

Is it not as easy as:

1. Right-click the Desktop
2. Select Properties
3. Select the Desktop tab
4. Click the Customize Desktop button
5. Check the box for Internet Explorer

No, not if the machine's fully patched at Windows Update and if IE7's
installed.

Your right! It was always there, but I haven't looked for a while. Been
using IE7 for a long time and yeah, it's gone. I would have thought
something was wrong. Thanks PA Bear!

YW. Also see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555849 (Though I'm not sure
he's got all his facts straight, it's essentially the same fix and was
published well before KB945402/MS07-061 was released.)

Never noticed that! Thanks for posting this info, Robear.

Yes, I have the same .REG fix (created in 2006) here:
FAQ #100 here: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/iefaq.htm

But wasn't aware of the "design change" implemented in KB945402 until you posted the KB here.
